Dear APS families,

I would like to share my optimism for new beginnings for the 2024-25 school year as we work together to create an environment that fosters a culture of belonging, collaboration, and community. With our students as the focus, I look forward to collaborating with our educators and families.

We were excited to celebrate the opening of the new school for West Elementary staff and students this year, with Shawsheen students joining them in 2025. With the completion of construction, we will begin the redistricting process. Redistricting is a very detailed and involved process and I want to ensure that our families have a space to share their perspectives, concerns, and ideas.  Information on the redistricting process can be found here.

Last spring, APS staff, students and families participated in the APS Equity Audit, the results of which were shared at the June 20, 2024 School Committee meeting. The goal of the audit was to assist us in identifying areas in which we can support student belonging, diversity and creating schools that are free from bias, prejudice, and discrimination. Students are our “why” - and we are committed to ensuring all families have the resources and support they need for their children to embrace new challenges, think critically, grow emotionally and academically.

Thank you for your partnership and continued trust in us.

Respectfully,
Dr. Magda Parvey
Superintendent of Schools

About Dr. Parvey:

Dr. Magda Parvey began her tenure as superintendent of the Andover Public Schools in July 2021.

Most recently, Dr. Parvey was the Chief Academic Officer for Middletown Public Schools in Middletown, Connecticut. In this role, Dr. Parvey oversaw all instructional programs and was charged with developing robust short- and long-range goals for Middletown’s Strategic Operating Plan. This position was seen as an integral part of the district’s effort to provide all students with rigorous learning experiences and prepare them to thrive as critical thinkers and problem solvers who are college and/or career ready. Her depth of experience and knowledge in curriculum design, instructional leadership and supervision were crucial components to the district’s strategic plan.

Prior to her appointment in Middletown, Dr. Parvey helmed the City School District of New Rochelle as Interim Superintendent, leading Westchester County’s second-largest school system through a time of great transition. A wise and effective decision maker with a strong belief in leading by forming relationships, she provided a sense of calm and stability to the District of 11,000 students. In New Rochelle, she promoted a rigorous curriculum, with a focus on offering access to opportunities for all students. With the faculty, she focused on professional learning, and promoted a culture of learning and collaboration. Her approach was to listen well and to engage her fellow administrators, teachers and others in pursuing the District’s mission.

As a lifelong educator, Dr. Parvey has held multiple leadership positions during her over 25 years of experience in school systems in Connecticut, North Carolina and New York. She is a graduate of Canisius College from which she holds a Bachelor of Arts. Dr. Parvey holds a Master of Science degree in elementary education and a Master of Arts in educational leadership and technology, both from Adelphi University; and a Doctor of Education in administration and supervision from Fordham University.
