Elementary Literacy PreK-5

The Andover Public Schools is committed to a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to literacy instruction. Guided by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's Mass Literacy project and the 1999 findings of The National Reading Panel, Andover Literacy is grounded in the explicit instruction of six critical components necessary for children to become successful readers and writers. These components are phonemic awareness, phonics, fluence, vocabulary, text comprehension, and written expression.
