Per MIAA rule 56.4, any student/athlete who exhibits signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent with a concussion shall be immediately removed from practice or competition. The student/athlete must be impacted tested within 72 hours of the injury and shall not return to play until cleared by an appropriate health care professional. Student-athletes who sustain a concussion must be symptom free for at least 24 hours as well as have physician clearance (in the form of a note given to the AHS nursing staff) and have passed the second post injury impact test before the 5 step gradual return to play begins. The first three days of practice and play are supervised by AHS Athletic Department staff.
