Now that we are nearly eight weeks into the school year, please remind your student about the following:
phones should be "off and away" (not in their pockets)
earbuds should be removed when arriving to school
smartwatches should be in "school mode"
warmer clothing (pants, sweatshirts, jackets, etc.) are helpful against the colder morning weather
students not eating breakfast will be asked to go out to recess (see previous note about warmer clothing)
We appreciate your support and partnership in supporting our school rules!
On October 22nd, author K.R. Alexander will be meeting with our sixth graders. He is the prolific author of middle grade horror fiction. Alexander's visit comes at the perfect time, coinciding with the spookiest time of year!
Great Lawrence Technical School will be meeting with our 8th grade class on October 23rd during 7th period.
Greater Lawrence Technical School is a regional technical high school serving the four communities of Andover, Lawrence, Methuen and North Andover. It is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
Students entering their freshman year explore each career and technical program. With resources such as career counseling and guidance from targeted support staff, students are able to make an informed decision choosing their path whether it be college or career.
On Thursday, October 31st, students are encouraged to wear costumes if they choose to do so. Our staff enjoys celebrating this day with team costumes. We would love our students to join in the fun!
Please make sure that your student's costume meets the criteria listed below:
no masks
no weapons (or something that could be used as such)
students must be able to sit down at their desks
Tickets will be sold on Fridays during lunches. They can also be purchased through the PAC website using this link.
The Color Run is back this year! Students will be partaking in the Color Run as the culminating celebration of the Boosterthon. Our students had a blast taking part last year. To make this year even more successful, we wanted to give substantial notice of the date, which is Friday, November 22nd.
* Please send students with clothing (including shoes) that can be covered in colorful chalk. *
Bullying and Social Media Eduction and Prevention
Before the pandemic, screen use, anxiety, and social problems (like bullying and fighting) were top concerns for parents. The last few years have made some of these issues even more challenging. This talk will examine challenges in school, like bullying, friendship skills, and mental health, and how the ways kids use screens, gaming, and social media can impact these. Research will be summarized, and practical approaches to family life that can help children develop emotional resilience, healthy social skills and friendships, and sensible screen and social media habits will be discussed during this presentation. We will discuss how to move forward, how to partner with your child's school, and how to help parents be most productive in guiding their children towards optimal social and emotional health.
