West El Weekly Update October 21st, 2024 | | |
| Curriculum & Instruction Perhaps the greatest part of my day is visiting classrooms and working with children. Ms. Tintle and I work hard to balance operations and curriculum/instruction and we both agree that time with children and teachers in the learning space is critical. We have spent the past month working with our teachers to prepare professional learning and student growth goals focused on high quality instruction and aligned with our School Improvement Plan. I encourage you to review the plan and communicate with us on how you can best support the academic growth of your child https://docs.google.com/document/d/1B2s8itxCkSACjKNR9siNOWEiEd6mlHcRWwM630geF60/edit?tab=t.0 | ELPAC MeetingThursday, October 24, Andover Public School's EL Department is hosting our first ELPAC meeting virtually from 12-1pm (Zoom link to join is below). ELPAC stands for English Learner Parents Advisory Council and is voluntary gathering of parents, guardians, teachers, administrators, and community members from Andover to advocate for the education of our Multilingual Learners PreK-12.
Please see this invitation for more information. Interpreters will be provided.
| APS Let's Talk: A Conversation About Redistricting! Our first "Let's Talk" session will focus on redistricting following the opening of the West Elementary School this fall. We anticipate a redistricting plan will be developed this year and implemented for the start of the 2025-26 school year. Based on the larger capacity of the new building, an outside consultant would support the district to evaluate current and projected enrollment in each school, redraw school boundaries, and recommend the reallocation of district resources. Thursday, October 24, 2024 : 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the West Elementary School Cafetorium (58 Beacon Street). Please enter via the Main Entrance. | | | Halloween At West EL | Students in grades K-2 are invited to wear their Halloween costumes to school on October 31, 2024 and will participate in our annual parade. Students in grades 3-5 may bring their costumes to school and change for their classroom parties. There are absolutely no weapons or violent attire allowed. Our annual parade will be from 9:30-10:00 AM and will occur outside- details to follow. Families and students grades 3-5 are invited to attend the parade. Most importantly, for those who do not celebrate/recognize Halloween, they are welcome to join members of our staff in the gymnasium for an alternative activity. |
| Scarecrow Festival! | We hope you can enjoy the scarecrows throughout the town this week. Make sure to stop by and see the West EL scarecrows, designed and made by our fifth graders and staff. This year's ACE Scarecrow Festival theme is "Things That Make You Smile!"
We are proud of the many designs of our students and love seeing these visions come to life! Special thanks to the ACE foundation and our art teachers, led by Ms. Kaplan, for their support! |
| Spooktacular Fun! | A giant thank you to our PTO for throwing a fantastic Spooktacular event. Students enjoyed trick or treat, crafts, dancing and one intense dance contest! A special thanks to the families and teachers who attended and kept this event safe and fun. |
