The final phase of work for the new West Elementary and Shawsheen Preschool project is underway to create new athletic fields in the space of the former building. Limited outdoor site work and supporting activities have been performed this winter during times of favorable weather.
The remaining athletic field construction work is dependent on weather conditions and has been impacted by winter temperatures and spring rains. To avoid schedule delays and ensure the fields will be ready for the next school year, there may be limited work performed on Saturdays through late Spring.
Work activities will be located within the fenced construction area on Beacon Street with minimal sound generation and will be planned around the weather forecast. Work will be performed from approximately 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on select Saturdays, as needed. West Elementary parking areas, driveways, and playgrounds will not be impacted and will remain open and accessible during Saturday construction work.
