Do members of the IA union receive compensation other than hourly pay as part of their employment?

Yes. While hourly base wages are important and the most significant component of earnings, it is not the full breadth of compensation offered to Andover’s Instructional Assistants and funded by Andover’s taxpayers.

Additional pay and benefit components include:

  • annual longevity bonuses (2.5% after 10 years, 3.0% after 15, 3.5% after 20, 4.0% after 25)
  • paid vacation days (5 days after 10 years)
  • paid holiday days (5 days after 8 years)
  • additional pay for stepping in temporarily to substitute teach (additional $9 per hour)
  • personal care stipends for work with some students (additional $1 per hour)
  • stipends for additional training (Registered Behavior Technicians and Literacy Tutors)
  • small annual bonus for education degree attainment ($150 for an associate degree, $250 bachelor, $350 masters)
  • health insurance benefits (individual or family plans during and post-employment)
  • and pension benefits
