On Wednesday, February 26th, the Andover Public Health Division and Andover Public Schools were made aware of a rumor that there is a case of Coronavirus at the high school.
We want to assure families there is no confirmed diagnosed case of Coronavirus in Andover. To date, there has only been one diagnosed case in Massachusetts. Andover Public Health Division and APS receive regular information from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MA DPH). According to the MA DPH, the risk of Coronavirus in Massachusetts is very low.
We have many individuals who are, or have been, traveling. Andover Public Health Division and Andover Public Schools are working together with MA DPH and are following the protocols set up by the CDC and other federal agencies to address the emerging issue of Coronavirus.
Andover Health Division will be contacted by MA DPH should any traveler in the community be identified as requiring quarantine. The Health Division will assess and monitor the situation. Additionally, in all APS schools, normal protocols for illness continues to be followed and additional steps are being taken if there is a history of travel.
We want to remind everyone that we are in the midst of a difficult flu season. We want to reinforce the same message of good hygiene and hand washing as well as staying home if you are sick, especially if your symptoms include a fever.
Should there be any changes in the recommended protocols, we will inform you.
