Statement of the Andover School Committee 

The Andover School Committee participated in a strike investigation Thursday evening with the Commonwealth Employment Relations Board (CERB) at the Department of Labor Relations as a result of the School Committee’s filing seeking to prevent the Andover Education Association (AEA) from engaging in an illegal strike.  

The CERB ruled that the union violated state law (M.G.L. c. 150E, s. 9A) and ordered AEA members to immediately cease and desist their unlawful work stoppage and return to school. We hope and expect the AEA will comply with the order and return to school on Monday.

The CERB also ordered a state-appointed mediator to work with both parties and help them reach a fair and equitable agreement. We look forward to returning to the negotiating table and will provide an update as soon as we are able.
