Curriculum and Instruction

At Sanborn School, we use the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks to guide teaching and learning in conjunction with curriculum programs that have been adopted by the Andover Public Schools. 

Writing: Students in Grades K-5 engage in the daily writing workshop model utilizing Lucy Calkins Units of Study.

Reading: Students in Grades K-5 engage in daily reading workshop model utilizing Fountas & Pinnell Classroom for Grades K-2. Grades 3-5 engage in a combination of novel study and guided small group reading. Additionally, students in Grades K-3 utilize Fundations which support critical foundational reading skills such as phonemic awareness, phonics and vocabulary. 

Math: Students in Grades K-5 engage the daily math workshop model utilizing Houghton Mifflin Harcourt's Math in Focus (Singapore Math) by Marshall Cavendish. 

Science: Students in Grades K-5 engage in science instruction utilizing Foss Next Generation curriculum.

Social Studies: Andover Public Schools is currently reviewing and developing a curriculum for Grades K-5 based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core.

Digital Learning: Students in Grades K-5 utilize iPads (K-1) and Chromebooks (3-5) regularly to enhance teaching and instruction of all curricular areas. 

Also, students attend daily specials including art, library, music and physical education/wellness.
