DESE PARCC Information
2014 Andover MCAS/PARCC Assessment Information - Superintendent Marinel D. McGrath
I am writing to share information with you about the field testing of the PARCC assessment. Some of you will have children who were selected to participate in the field test, and many others of you will not participate in the field test. By way of information, the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (MBOE) voted to accept a two-year transition plan to the PARCC assessment. The MBOE selected several Andover Schools (High Plain Elementary School, South Elementary School, West Elementary School, Doherty Middle School, West Middle School, Wood Hill Middle, and Andover High School) to participate in the Spring 2014 PARCC Field Test.
Because some of our students are participating in the PARCC field test, as a school district, we had the option of opting out of MCAS English Language Arts and Math testing for the grade levels and students selected for the field PARCC field testing except grade 10. Therefore, the online PARCC assessment will be replace the MCAS for APS students in randomly selected classes at High Plain, South School, West Elementary Schools and Doherty, West and Wood Hill Middle Schools. Students who were NOT SELECTED for the PARCC field test will continue to take the MCAS as scheduled.
Andover High School students selected to field test the PARCC will have to take both PARCC and MCAS due to both the state graduation requirement and to qualify for the Adams' scholarships.
There are two testing windows for the 2014 PARCC field test assessments. The first window for field testing the "Performance Based Assessment" (PBA) will be from the end-of-March through April 11, 2014. The dates for the second field test, the “End of Year Assessment" (EOY), will be from May 19 - June 6, 2014. If a student is absent on a testing day, he/she will take the test upon his/her return.
If your child’s class has been randomly selected by DESE to take the PARCC online field test you will receive a letter from your child’s principal. I expect that you may of questions. To help answer these questions, you will find information about the PARCC online field testing in the DESE documents below or at parcconline.org. As additional information about the PARCC field test becomes available, we will post it in this space. You may also contact your child’s principal with any questions you may have.
