Middle School At-Home Learning Phase 3

Andover middle schools’ phase 3 remote learning schedule and plan will begin on May 4, 2020. Two of the changes with this transition are slight modifications to our schedule and the use of ASPEN to provide families feedback regarding student participation and level of completeness towards the learning targets.  Consistent with guidance from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), we will continue to provide engaging instruction for our students focused on the content standards most critical for success in the next grade.

Individual student experience will vary depending on individual and family needs, access, capacity for remote learning, and the ongoing health of students, families and staff. We cannot possibly replicate the school day under these circumstances, nor can we expect parents to take on the role of their child’s teachers.

The changes to our schedule allow our Integrated Arts, World Language and Reading teachers opportunities to work with each grade at different times. Students and families can still expect posting of new experiences and access to teachers during the days and times in the schedule.

In response to what we have learned through phase 1 and 2, and in preparation for phase 3, we have developed a scale in ASPEN to reflect feedback for students and families. The goal was to use a system which is familiar to teachers, students and families.  In addition, this scale will also guide next year’s teachers regarding student participation and level of completeness towards the learning targets established during this time.  No effort or conduct grade will be assigned for term 3. Effort or conduct will be evaluated by the teachers and incorporated into the overall rating for the term and the legend below will be published with report cards.

  • P4 = Demonstrated evidence of exceeding learning target
  • P3 = Demonstrated evidence of meeting learning target
  • P2 = Demonstrated some evidence of meeting learning target
  • P1 = No evidence of meeting learning target

Phase 3  Middle School Remote Learning Schedule:

Changes allow for the IA, Reading, WL and PE teachers to connect with one grade level at a time instead of the whole school (phase 2).

We have also started working on our transition plans for our 5th and 8th grade students. We are forming two committees that will include administrators, teachers, and parents to come up with safe options to celebrate their achievements. We appreciate your cooperation as we approach the final phase to the 2019-20 school year.
